The financially stretched Rams are perched perilously near the drop zone but Latics boss Paul Jewell insisted " They're no mugs.
"It's a magnificent club with a great set up. They are in a bit of a mess at the moment but don't feel sorry for them - they've still got some very good players and George Burley is doing an admirable job."
The previous game in October ended in a 2-2 draw and Jewell said " We looked comfortable winners at 2-nil up until the ref gave a ridiculous penalty and let them back in. It was definitely two points thrown away."
Midfield powerhouse Jason Jarrett is Wigan's only doubt with a slight hamstring strain, but he is expected to play. New signing Alan Mahon makes his home debut.
Wigan - held to successive goal-less draws in their two previous home games this year - are just four points adrift of third placed West Brom.
In form Scottish winger Gary Teale said " We are in a great position but it would be foolish to say that we will definitely go up."
Danger man: Wigan born striker Leon Osman, on loan from Everton, who got a last minute equaliser against Cardiff last week.
Last season: Different divisions
Forecast: 2-0 win.
