WIGAN boss Paul Jewell has been unable to sign either Blackburn's Alan Mahon or Southampton's Chris Baird in time for tomorrow's home clash with Burnley.
Jewell is disappointed but is hoping for developments next week.
"A player's club changed their mind at the last minute," he said.
"I was hoping to bring in at least one more player for the Burnley game but it won't happen."
Wigan aim to complete the double over Stan Ternent's side after winning 2-0 at Turf Moor and Andy Liddell, who returns to the squad after a month's absence with a calf injury, predicts that Latics can make the play-offs.
Liddell said: "This has to be our realistic aim. We are, though, struggling on our own pitch.
"Everyone can see that it's sticky and bare.
"That obviously poses its own set of problems as, when the ball is played into feet, you're wondering just where it's going to go."
Steve McMillan has also resumed training and keeper John Filan makes his 100th consecutive league start for the club.
Alan Rogers will not play as he returns to Leicester at the end of his loan spell.
