Preview: Wigan Athletic v Bradford City

WIGAN will be without suspended pair Lee McCulloch and Matt Jackson when Paul Jewell faces his old club Bradford for the first time since quitting as manager over three years ago.

Jewell took the Bantams into the Premiership and admits: "I had the happiest times of my career so far there - and I would love to emulate that here at Wigan.

"The only reason I left was that I felt my relationship with the chairman was getting a bit strained."

Striker Geoff Horsfield is fit again with Peter Kennedy favourite to take over from McCulloch and there could be a new face in the squad.

Jewell has made a bid for a player but he refused to confirm that the target is Middlesbrough left winger Stewart Downing.

Bradford have lost two out of three under Bryan Robson and Colin Todd but Jewell is backing the former Reds star to get them out of trouble.

"They have enough good players to turn it round and having Bryan and Colin there will give them a boost."

LAST SEASON: Different divisions.

KEY OPONENT: Michael Branch - leading scorer with six so far.

PREDICTION: Wigan 2 Bradford 1.
