Paul Jewell’s men are chasing a fifth successive win but could be without former Bury star Jason Jarrett.
He slipped as he ran out for the start of the second-half in Saturday’s win at Wimbledon and jarred his knee.
Jewell was wanting to replace Jarrett with fellow Mancunian Paul Mitchell, but he also has a knock. It leaves Tony Dinning waiting to see if he is recalled.
Jewell reacted angrily last week to radio reports linking the former Stockport star with Sheffield United. Blades bosses have, however, been checking out Dinning’s form for the reserves as have a couple of Scottish clubs.
A start in midfield will at least give the talented Dinning the chance to show both Wigan bosses and on-lookers what he is capable of.
Jewell says Wigan are not getting carried away by their impressive start. He expects few favours from Gary Megson’s Albion team, who were thumped 3-1 by Latics in last year’s League Cup-tie.
The directors box could be interesting, with Wigan bosses still smarting from their dealings with Albion over Jason Roberts’ recent ill-fated transfer.
