WIGAN boss Paul Jewell hopes to round off a frustrating week by defeating neighbours Preston in front of a bumper JJB Stadium crowd.

Million pound-plus bids for Birmingham's Geoff Horsfield and West Brom's Jason Roberts have failed, leaving Jewell with major problems.

He is desperate to bring in a striker. A further blow is news that skipper Jason De Vos will be out for three months with a broken foot.

This means an extended run in the side for Ian Breckin with Matt Jackson taking over the captaincy from the injured Canadian international.

Wigan are also likely to welcome first choice keeper John Filan, who missed the midweek Carling Cup win over Hull with a finger injury. Preston have started the season with two defeats, including a midweek shock at the hands of Notts County, and will be desperate to get something from their visit to the JJB.
