WIGAN Athletic skipper Jason De Vos could be facing a lengthy lay-off with a broken bone in his foot.

The Canadian star misses tonight's Carling Cup clash with Hull City and is also ruled out of Saturday's match with Preston.

Manager Paul Jewell is waiting for the outcome of X-rays and a specialist's report after De Vos was injured in the weekend defeat at Millwall.

De Vos was dogged by a foot injury throughout last season and Jewell may have to do without the powerful, experienced central defender for the foreseable future.

Ian Breckin will deputise tonight.

Jewell said: "Hull are a massive club with a huge potential. In Peter Taylor, they have a great manager and a great coach."
