Swindon 2 Wigan Athletic 1

LEE McCulloch's second half header was not enough to save Wigan from slipping to their first defeat since August as Paul Jewell's men were beaten 2-1 at mid-table Swindon.

McCulloch nodded home from Nicky Eaden's right wing cross 11 minutes into the second half. But first half strikes from Swindon captain Andy Gurney and midfielder Invincibile were enough to end Wigan's 21 match unbeaten run.

Wigan fell behind on 24 minutes when Australian international Invincibile expertly hooked the ball past Latics goalkeeper John Filan from 16 yards.

Swindon skipper Gurney added to the visitors' woes just 11 minutes later when he made it 2-0 with a well taken 10 yard volley after Wigan had failed to clear on loan Tottenham midfielder Dean Marney's free kick.

McCulloch's header was just reward for an improved second half performance but Wigan couldn't conjure up a second goal to keep their five month unbeaten run intact.

Top scorer Nathan Ellington came closest to grabbing an equaliser but his late header was cleared off the line by Swindon defender Matt Heywood.
