Jewell's Ellington bid frustrated

WIGAN Athletic manager Paul Jewell continues to be frustrated in his efforts to bring striker Nathan `Duke' Ellington back to the JJB Stadium from West Brom.

According to reports from the Midlands, Albion will only allow Ellington to leave The Hawthorns once they themselves have recruited a new striker.

Jewell had hoped to re-sign Ellington in time for last weekend's FA Cup clash with Portsmouth but Albion have dug their heels in and are in no hurry to sell even though Ellington himself is desperate to return.

Tony Finnigan, his advisor, has been in daily contact with Wigan officials.

Latics have bid close to the é3m Albion paid for Ellington at the start of last season.

The player himself has held regular meetings with the Baggies' management to discuss his future.

Jewell is even more desperate to bring him back to Wigan following news that Manchester United's Alan Smith has no intention of leaving Old Trafford.

Wigan had made a tentative enquiry about Smith and have also been linked with Caleb Folan, who has scored 11 goals for Chesterfield this season.

Folan, a former Leeds apprentice, has attracted plenty of interest from Premiership scouts.

Meanwhile, a number of Championship clubs are understood to be considering a move for Wigan's Scottish international winger Gary Teale, who has failed to hold down a regular place this season.

Burnley and Preston could be tempted to move for Teale and Stoke City have also been monitoring developments.

Henri Camara has started running after sustaining a knee injury along with Antonio Valencia but no date can yet by fixed for Paul Scharner's comeback following a knee injury.

Wigan face champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The 'Duke' can be at Wigan tommorow, but they won't pay the price.

Put your hand in your pocket Whelan if you want him. No less than £4m.

If you can't /won't pay then shut up and move on.

Baggy, be serious. 4 million for a striker who isn't even 1st choice at WBA! After winning the Championship golden boot 2 seasons ago he was bought from us for 3,000,001, why should he be worth 1m more now? He has been very dissapointing since then.

More to the point, why are we moving backwards?
