Bung 'em out of the game, says Whelan

DAVE Whelan wants agents who refused to help Lord Stevens' bung-busting inquiry to be thrown out of the game.

The tough talking Wigan Athletic chairman believes soccer's governing bodies Fifa and the FA should cancel the licences of the eight rebel agents who the Quest investigation team say did not co-operate.

M.E.N. Sport columnist Whelan became the first Premiership chairman to speak publicly about the inquiry into big-money transfers that that has already cost é800,000.

He said: "I would take away the licences from all the players' agents who it has been claimed failed to co-operate with Lord Stevens' investigation.

"Every Premiership club willingly co-operated, so I can't see any reason why all the agents involved with transfer dealings at this level and with these clubs couldn't have done likewise.

"They say the truth never hurts, and if it was up to me I feel that these particular agents should have action taken against them and should no longer be allowed to trade.

"I would consider taking their licences away and imposing bans and restrictions if necessary.

"I would term the finding of the report a little iffy, but it's obvious there is a real need for total transparency regarding transfer dealings.

"Lessons have to be learned, and it's obvious one or two things were not right, but these were isolated incidents.

"As with most things in life, there are good and bad agents, and maybe they all become tainted because of those with the sole intention of making money from moving players on from club to club."
