WIGAN'S teenage winger David Cotterill will be disappointed if he doesn't retain a starting place at the Riverside Stadium.

Cotterill slotted his first Premiership goal at West Ham on Wednesday and was showered with praise by manager Paul Jewell.

Emile Heskey misses the trip through suspension and that could give the 19-year-old flyer another opportunity with Henri Camara starting instead of the ex-Liverpool man.

"David showed composure and ability in a tight situation," said Jewell. "That's lovely to see and hopefully the boy has a bright future ahead of him because he's a real talent."

Latics fans will certainly see more of Cotterill over the coming weeks.

Injuries

"This is the time of year when suspensions and injuries can start playing their part," said Jewell.

"The whole squad needs to be ready and fit because it is likely that everyone will play their part.

"December could go a long way into shaping the way the rest of the season will pan out.

"But the general mood in the dressing room is optimistic and the players feel this month gives them a fantastic opportunity to show what they can do."

Apart from Heskey, the only other confirmed absentee is injured Matt Jackson.

Wigan won 3-2 at the Riverside last season and will settle for a repeat scoreline.
