PASCAL Chimbonda has finally signed for Tottenham for around é6million.
Wigan said the transfer would mean éthe biggest fee Wigan Athletic have ever received for one of their playersé.
Wigan boss Paul Jewell told the clubés website, www.wiganlatics.co.uk: éI think we have been strong enough to hold out for what we think Pascal is worth.
éI had a price in mind all along and was never prepared to accept anything less than that.é
The 27-year-old right- back, who made the French World Cup squad, went from hero to zero with Latics fans after an ill-timed transfer request immediately after the final game of last season at Arsenal.
Chimbonda, who scored two goals in 44 appearances, had looked set to stay after Wigan turned down offers from Spurs and West Ham. But an increased bid close to Wigan's é6m valuation ended the saga and clinched his transfer to White Hart Lane.
Latics already have a replacement after the é1.5m capture of Emmerson Boyce from Crystal Palace.
He will face competition from England Under-21 star Ryan Taylor, who hopes to be back by Christmas after a double leg fracture.
With the transfer window set to close tonight, Paul Jewell is still attempting to bolster his squad with a couple of additions.
Targets
Hearts' and Scotland defender Andy Webster's move is not affected by the deadline as the deal is already signed.
All that needs to be resolved is the compensation fee Wigan must pay once FIFA have considered the paperwork.
Jewell, meanwhile, is happy that international calls mean no game this weekend. Otherwise he would have been without three players - Emile Heskey, Antonio Valencia and Henri Camara.
Camara, who has a torn thigh muscle, is unlikely to be fit for the trip to Portsmouth on Saturday week.
Jewell said: "He just gets on with his job and he worked exceptionally hard when he replaced Henri on Saturday in the Reading game."
A new date has been fixed for Wigan's home game against Arsenal, postponed because of the Gunners' European commitments. It will be played on December 13 (7.45pm).
