Wigan duo head north

FORMER England striker Emile Heskey and Dutch international midfielder Denny Landzaat will both travel to Norway for Wigan's friendly against Rosenborg.

Both players were injured in Saturday's 2-1 win at Halifax.

But Heskey (abductor muscle) and Landzaat (shoulder) could both feature in Paul Jewell's plans.

More good news for Jewell and the Latics squad has been goalkeeper John Filan's return to training.

The 36-year-old Australian has been sidelined with a knee injury.

New signing Luis Antonio Valencia will not travel to Norway, but should arrive in England on Thursday if there are no complications with his work permit.

The 21-year-old Ecuadorian midfielder, who has agreed a one-year loan deal to play at the JJB Stadium, impressed Jewell at this summer's World Cup.

Meanwhile, former Wigan Athletic chairman Ken Cowap has died at the age of 77.

Mr Cowap was one of the so-called `gang of four', with boardroom colleagues Arthur Horrocks, Tom Hitchen and Jack Farrimond, who helped keep the Latics afloat and then steered them into the Football League in 1978.

He sold his shares in the early 1980s to Manchester businessman Freddie Pye but had an executive box at the JJB Stadium.

why take heskey to norway, its cold and freezing up there, he can hardley stand up in england so im sure he will go down a bomb in norway, he is the only player who was running down the wing when the linesman sneezed and he fell over, frank bruno spends more time on his feet than heskey, elton john tried to sign him when he was in charge at watford and when he was askede why was it his power or his goal scoring ability elton said he was the only player who spent more time on his arse
