He is the son of national coach Zlatko Kranjcar and has impressed Wigan bosses who have been in Germany monitoring his form.
Wigan manager Paul Jewell also watched Kranjcar playing for Croatia in a friendly with Austria ahead of the World Cup and describes him as "real talent".
Latics are in desperate need of a quality midfield player having lost playmaker Jimmy Bullard to Fulham at the end of last season.
They are poised to make a move for 21-year-old Hajduk Split ace Kranjcar now that Croatia have been knocked out of the tournament.
Latics also continue to be linked with AZ Alkmaar's Dutch midfielder Denny Landzaat and are also in talks with Birmingham with a view to signing former England striker Emile Heskey. Tweet

he did't show much on the world cup but he is a great player. he just needs to run a little more and participate in defense more and he could became one of the best.
