WIGAN Athletic's hopes of signing Birmingham City striker Emile Heskey have been hit by the player's wage demands.
Latics could lose out to Blackburn and are still smarting from failing to sign Andy Johnson who joined Everton.
Wigan assistant manager Chris Hutchings said: "We are interested in Heskey but so are Blackburn and Portsmouth as well so it depends on how much the player wants.
"We have money to spend but we are not going to overpay in the market but if you don't do that, sometimes you might not get the players.
Wigan are also understood to have made a é3.5m bid for Newcastle midfielder James Milner.
Should Wigan submit to Heskey's wage demands? Have your say.

A bid of ??5 million will get him so go for it. We need to spend big to get a quality ex England player.
As the story says it will be his wage demands that decide the issue not the transfer fee.I and many other Latics fans have very mixed feelings on Heskey and i think if he wants too much we should look elswere.
Spot on Steve, he could get us into Europe with the right service.
Sounds to me like we are trying to get him on the cheap. If we aren't careful we'll lose him. This and the Chimbonda affair is starting to annoy me now.
Come on Dave give him the wages he wants because no-one at Rovers want him, he's a big dollop and we need to improve our squad not make it worse.
no a thousand times no
I somehow think Mr Savage will be in for a smack if Heskey joins your Welsh brigade.
Why can't anyone in footbal see that Heskey is just not good enough to hack it as a goal scorer? That is what we need, not an average holder up of the ball. I for one would not like to see Heskey here instead of Roberts. If we can pay his high wages why not Roberts?
We need a powerful centre forward. 2million plus jason roberts, and also if heskes wages paid w3ill get him.PPlay up front with camara and theyll be unstoppable. heskeys a confidence player and will excel with the players the club brings in and the ones there.
Latics will have their eye on haf a dozen strikers.
Theres no need to pay over the top if you can pick up an equally good player from Europe etc.
Let's just trust Jewell. I'm not a big fan of heskey but it may all be part of jewells big plan. Maybe Mr Hutchings coming out with these comments is a big red herring to other clubs.
