Wigan hope to lure Murphy

WIGAN Athletic are understood to be interested in signing Tottenham midfielder Danny Murphy.

Spurs still want Wigan's é6m transfer-listed full-back Pascal Chimbonda but Latics are ready to target Murphy if they can agree a cash-plus-player deal.

Latics have already been linked with Spurs' keeper Martin Fulop but manager Paul Jewell would prefer to bring in Murphy.

Rejected

Wigan have rejected Tottenham's latest offer of é3m for Chimbonda, but manager Martin Jol is still keen for a deal to be finalised before the start of the World Cup.

Turkish club Besiktas, meanwhile, have made a é1m offer for Wigan striker Jason Roberts.

Morcambe have appointed former Macclesfield and Stockport County boss Sammy McIlroy as their new permanent manager.

I'm a Spurs fan and I say let him go there! Like many Spurs fans, very unsure as to why we signed Murphy in the first place, when we could have kept the likes of Pedro Mendes. I would swap Murphy for Chimbonda any day!
