There was yet another goal for Ellington in the 2-2 draw with Cardiff and the striker's progress was checked out by Everton boss Moyes in the Worthington Cup demolition of West Brom.
Record signing Ellington is a key weapon in Wigan's promotion push, but fans have started to wonder if there could be a release clause in his contract.
Wigan bosses are staying tight-lipped but the more goals Ellington scores, the more interest he will attract from Moyes and other Premiership bosses.
Wigan boss Paul Jewell, meanwhile, was delighted with the effort put in by his side but disappointed that they did not take all three points.
"We were a bit unfortunate not to get the win. But I'm not going to knock anybody," said Jewell.
"I thought the effort they put in was fabulous."
The game should have been beyond the second division title favourites, but dangerman Rob Earnshaw managed to salvage the draw four minutes from time with his second goal of the game.
Like Wigan's Ellington, Earnshaw is tipped for greater things and already figures in Mark Hughes' plans for Wales's Euro 2004 campaign.
He had two chances and took them both, while Ellington got one and missed one when he put a header wide.
Jewell, meanwhile, is refusing to look ahead to the Worthington Cup tie against Manchester City next month.
"It doesn't mean anything to me at this moment in time, it's the league that counts," said Jewell.
