WIGAN Athletic are lining up a surprise swoop for Sheffield United utility star Phil Jagielka.
Everton and Aston Villa are also interested in signing the talented 22-year-old.
If Wigan sign him, it could lead to the departure of Jimmy Bullard, who is still haggling over a new contract.
Bullard played half of last night's 1-1 draw with Preston at Deepdale. Former Liverpool defender Stephane Henchoz made his Wigan debut.
Lee McCulloch's first-half goal for Wigan was cancelled out by Brian O'Neill.
Meanwhile, Latics will also be taking a Polish Under-21 goalkeeper on trial.
Should Wigan go for Jagielka? Have your say.

yes strenghten the defence up and can play dwn the middle as well good signing for us
The closer we get to the season start the more Latics re in need of 'bodies' if unable to get the 'quality' they would otherwise wish to attract. Can't see Sheffield Utd doing Wigan any favours so this may drag on a while?
