Wigan ponder Brown swap

WIGAN Athletic could offer Nathan Ellington or Jimmy Bullard in a cash-plus player deal to land Tottenham midfielder Michael Brown.

The Latics remain very interested in Brown, the former Manchester City player, and may be prepared to offer one of their stars to force Spurs to sell.

Ellington and Bullard have been refusing to sign new contracts.

There could be developments on this front later this week, but their refusal to sign is frustrating club bosses.

Both players are out of contract at the end of the season and Wigan could decide to cash in now on either player.

Both Ellington and Bollard originate from the south of England so relocating would not present too many problems.

Manager Paul Jewell was first linked with Brown at the end of last season.

Latics have also been running the rule over another foreign defender - chief scout David Hamilton was in Holland this week checking out a centre-half at FC Twente.

Wigan are also still said to be interested in Southampton striker Brett Ormerod who was at Wigan on loan towards the end of the season.

Ormerod would still like to join Wigan, but Saints' boss Harry Redknapp can't afford to lose another striker after having seen Kevin Phillips and Peter Crouch leave St Marys.

Wigan kick-off their pre-season campaign on Wednesday at Preston.

What do you make of the proposed swap deal? Have your say.

Not a good idea to let Ellington go, but Brown for Bullard would do me ok.

Why on earth would Spurs be interested in Bullard or Ellington?

Neither would improve their squad?

RIDICULOUS! Why would Spurs with one of the largest squads in the premiership already want more unproven players in return for the experienced Brown.

Whoever wrote this article should stick to horse racing articles.

Ideally i'd want jimmy and the duke to be offered better contracts so that they'd stay - and then bolster our "not so large" squad with the likes of brown and ormerod!!

This story is hopefully a big pile of steaming dog poo!! Spurs are always on the receiving end of rubbish transfer speculation and I think this goes to show how many people we have been linked with because they are now really dredging up the dross!! Tired old hacks running out of stories to run with again. Come on the Spurs for the new season!!

if it means a trade with ellington then i would look down another avenue. ellington needs to stay at wigan. without him goals would dry up. we havent got the most free scoring midfield and i dont think a swop would benefit. lets pay decent cash for brown. we have money to burn. brown and bullard in the centre with kavanagh as back up. thats good enough to stay up comfortably

why swap. money talks in football and we have plenty to burn. surely going a little over the odds to gain an excellent aquisition is good business. it may persuade the rebels to sign new contracts. brown and bullard in centre mid with kavanagh as back up is more than good enough to stay up.

Spurs wouldn't take either player that has been mentioned. Ellignton is not as good as any of the four forwards already at the club and Bullard would be well behind the likes of Carrick, Mendes, Davis, Tainio, Huddlestone and Brown. He might have been good in the Championship but the Premiership is a different ball game. I do wish you all the best for the season though. Good Luck.

I though Oldham were called Latics and not Wigan?

If Ellington or Bullard are stalling over money then Whealen should pay up, they got us in the prem and they deserve a reward, but if they are stalling waiting to see if other clubs want them then see you later, we need players with all their heart in wigan, thats what will keep us up.Up the Tics!
