Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is hoping to complete the signing of teenage striker Nouha Dicko ahead of the start of the Premier League season this weekend.

The 19-year-old Frenchman has impressed in a trial spell with the club after leaving Strasbourg.

The French club have been forced to release all their players because of financial problems and the Latics are waiting for clarification from the FA that they can sign Dicko as a free agent.

Martinez expects it will take the pacy frontman some time to adapt to the English game but believes he has the potential to be competing for a first-team place this season.

If Dicko does sign for Wigan he will be Martinez's third summer recruit after goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi - who impressed on loan last season - and midfielder David Jones.
