The Black Cats, who sold Darren Bent to Aston Villa for £18m on Tuesday, are keen to do a deal for the French winger.
Wigan chairman Dave Whelan is keen to keep hold of N’Zogbia but won’t stand in his way.
“I’ve always said to Charles if a top-six club comes in for him, he can speak with them,” said Whelan. “We’ll never stand in a player’s way. We don’t want to sell him, we’ve no plans to sell him and we haven’t received any offers at this stage.
“There’s no chance of him going anywhere on loan and if he is to go, it has got to be for the right money. He’s an outstanding player, he has wonderful pace.”
Whelan, however, has blasted fellow relegation battlers Aston Villa for paying so much for Bent.
“The amount of money in the game is enormous, it’s flowing in but flowing straight into players’ wages, everything else is being bypassed,” he said.

N’Zogbia SHOULD be heading to Old Trafford. He's a cracking player with pace, who can chip in with the odd goal. He caused havoc at OT and against Arsenal earlier this season. As he is left sided he would be the ideal replacement for Giggs. Come on Fergie, sign him up!
