WIGAN boss Paul Jewell is frustrated at not being able to bolster his depleted squad ahead of tomorrow's clash with Plymouth.

Jewell targeted four Premiership players, including Chelsea's England star Scott Parker, but nothing has materialised.

He said: "Two were keen to come but their clubs wouldn't release them while another couple didn't fancy a move down a division. We're still in there looking."

Jewell has just 16 fully fit players travelling to Home Park and midfielder Tony Dinning could be a surprise starter on his return from loan at Ipswich.

Keeper John Filan has a late fitness test on a hand injury and Nicky Eaden is a doubt with a hamstring injury, which could mean a recall for David Wright.

Jason Roberts will play with his hand strapped following surgery on a damaged finger tendon.

Jewell added: "We are going there knowing we have to be on our mettle."
