Jewell wants to get the Wright man

CREWE Alexandra central defender David Wright is lined up by Wigan Athletic to replace Jason De Vos.

Ipswich Town have swooped for the Canadian international leaving Latics boss Paul Jewell needing to bring in a top centre back.

Several Premiership clubs have been linked with Wright.

Wigan are also close to bringing Torquay United striker David Graham to the club. He's scored 23 goals this season and wants to join Wigan, who have had a '200,000 bid rejected.

Latics will up their offer as they look to bolster their squad with manager Jewell keen to bring in at least five new players.

Southampton full back Chris Baird is still on Wigan's wanted list and Blackpool's Richie Wellens, the former Manchester United junior, has again been linked with Latics.

Wigan chased Hearts star Scott Severin earlier this year but the arrival of Per Frandsen seems to have blocked this interest.

Meanwhile, veteran star Andy Liddell is expected to complete his move from Wigan to Sheffield United in the next fortnight.

Veteran keeper Gary Walsh will, however, stay at Wigan for another season.
