So just the fact that the Latics were in the hunt for a promotion play-off place on the very last day of the season speaks volumes for the managerial ability of popular Scouser Jewell whose team at times over the past nine months have looked the best footballing outfit outside the top flight.
What a fitting reward it would have been for Jewell's efforts over the campaign if his side had booked a play-off place in that final match against West Ham ' as they would have done but for that goal from Hammers striker Brian Deane with only two minutes left on the clock. Perhaps his players were suffering from stage fright after finally attracting the crowd they deserve.
JEWELL RATING: 8
Have your say.

But I think you should expand your journalistic style it include a more positive tone.
Wigan got their biggest home attendance against west ham, your way of acknowledging this is to take the pist, why?
The good folk of Wigan responded to the clubs success, so should you.
