Latics boss Paul Jewell has already tried to prise Flitcroft, the Blackburn Rovers skipper, away from Ewood Park.
The initial approach failed, but Jewell intends to make Flitcroft - who he sees as the ideal man to add experience and steel to his midfield - his priority buy.
Wigan have released Gareth Farrelly and Peter Kennedy, and veteran stars Andy Liddell and Canadian skipper Jason De Vos are also on their way out.
Neil Warnock wants Liddell at Sheffield United and De Vos is a target for Cardiff City.
Jewell has been linked with the vacant Leeds United job, but insists he is happy at Wigan. He told M.E.N. Sport: "I enjoy being here, I'm not unhappy and have a job to do at this club. I intend to move the club forward."
Is Flitcroft the sort of signing you want at the JJB? have your say Tweet

i think this would give us a strong back bone in the midfield and would add the experience and premiership quality we require to go straight up next year, althogh i think a B#2 million centre half is needed as jason de vos is off to the Usa
flitty is a great player, i doubt hed leave rovers though
flitcroft is just what we need to accompany jimmy bullard in midfield. just hope he signs, would be a cracking signing if we can get him in!
Hey up lads. Im a MCFC fan myself but i thought i would join in this discussion. Flitcroft is a great player but i cant help think that a large fee would be involved. I've seen you play a few times this season and have noticed that you do seem to lack some steel in the middle of the park, this leading me on to DANNY TIATTO. This guy would be awesome if you could get your hands on him. He is ruthless and will fight for the cause and get you in the Premiership. Also i feel that Wiekens would be a good replacement for De Vos. Wiekens has alot of experience and is free. Would you like these type of players at the JJB next season??
