The Egyptian striker, who fell out with ex-boss Steve Bruce last season when continually returning home late from international duty, wants to stay at the DW Stadium.
Zaki has told his advisers in Cairo he regrets his behaviour and would welcome a return to Wigan.
But there is little chance of a compromise, with Wigan chairman Dave Whelan unlikely to take him back.
Panathanikos and Lyon are possible options.
Would you like to see Zaki back at Wigan? Have your say.

Could you imagine if he started well again, what would happen to his head? He'll end up at some big club in a small league who'll be able to take a risk on him, like panathonikos, besiktas, etc...
I'd like him to go to City, so we could then take the decent young players they've got that'll never get a chance now!
Where’s you soul gone eh City? You used to be the club of the people of Manchester now look at you! You’re a wannabe Moan U! Sad really.
