Rodallega: Wigan feels like home

GETTING STUCK IN: Hugo Rodallega in action against Fulham
COLOMBIAN striker Hugo Rodallega says he has instantly felt at home alongside Wigan Athletic's international journeymen.

Rodallega, the latest addition to Steve Bruce's very own league of nations squad, is a powerful striker with a good turn of pace and a fine reputation.

Chairman Dave Whelan is expecting big things of Rodallega once fully up to speed with the demands of Premier League football.

Wigan scouts watched Rodallega in action for Mexican club side Necaxa and Whelan was excited with what he saw of him on tape.

The big Colombian said: "Wigan seems like my sort of club. I come from a working background and people at the club have been telling me about the history of the town.

"It seems a place where the people believe in working hard for a living, which is exactly what I feel about my game.

"Coming to Wigan is a big step for me and it's not one that I have made lightly but to be finally here is a dream come true. I've been told that I have quite a European style of play and that I am not that South American.

"I do like the physical side of the game, I enjoy heading the ball and I think I'm pretty quick, but I have to let the people and the manager decide about my qualities when they have seen me play.

"The main thing is that I hope I can play my part and I want to help the team get better. My personal ambitions come second at the moment. This is a club that looks after its players and wants them to progress.

"It does help to have Antonio Valencia and Maynor Figueroa here because home does not feel as far away when you can make yourself be understood. They have both done really well here at Wigan and that is the model for me to follow. I have been welcomed by all the players and I can see that the team spirit is fantastic. There is a close feeling between us all and I'm not just talking about the other Latin Americans."

What are your first impressions of Rodallega? Have your say.
