He limped off against Fulham on Saturday with a groin strain and was unable to train fully ahead of the game and has since had to report to the Egyptian Football Federation who will assess the extent of his injury.
Mido is ineligible to play for Wigan in their next game against Middlesbrough with him being on loan from Boro.
This means a likely return for the Egyptian international will be away at Chelsea at the end of the month.
Manager Steve Bruce admitted playing two games in the space of three days last week had taken its toll on Mido, who has had problems with his groin and hernia in the past.
Meanwhile, Bruce felt Mido's fellow new recruit Charles N'Zogbia did reasonably well on his debut at the weekend.
Bruce was forced to make three first-half substitutions but N'Zogbia showed him glimpses he will give Wigan more options on the left flank.
The 22-year-old £6.5m record signing from Newcastle said: "I have come to play football and want to show Steve Bruce and everyone at Wigan that they've been right putting so much faith in me.
"Newcastle is a fantastic club and I will always be grateful for their fantastic supporters but I'm a Wigan player now and I don't see why we cannot challenge for Europe.
"We have the squad to do it and a fantastic manager. This is a club moving in the right direction. I want to show the supporters of Wigan they have bought a player who always plays 100 per cent for the team and always gives everything every match.
"I have come here to play and to win. I want to get into the France squad and I know the only way to do that is to play well for Wigan."
