Zaki switch back on

WIGAN Athletic's move for Egyptian international striker Amr Zaki is back on.

Zaki's club Zamalak appear to have found a replacement for him - Nottingham Forest's Ghanaian striker Junior Agogo.

Wigan had agreed a year-long loan deal for Zaki last week but Zamalak bosses would not sanction his transfer until a suitable replacement was found.

Talks with Agogo are at an advanced stage and once they are completed Wigan hope to finalise the deal that will bring Zaki to the JJB Stadium.

Latics' football director John Benson was in Cairo last week to see Zaki's match-winning performance in the Egyptian Cup final.

Wigan will take him on loan for a year with a view to the deal becoming permanent.

Zaki is keen to make his mark in the Premiership and Wigan were stunned last week at the delay in the deal.

Meanwhile, Henri Camara who spent the whole of last season on loan at West Ham, has told Wigan bosses he wants to stay in the Premiership. He is unlikely to be offered a new deal by Bruce but this could alert Portsmouth, who have tracked him in the past.

Camara has admitted joining the Hammers was a mistake as he made just a handful of appearances for them.

Pompey are also believed to be running the rule over Wigan striker Emile Heskey, while Latics are reported to be interested in AC Milan forward David Suazo.

Wigan are among the Premiership clubs who have checked out Carlisle's Keiron Westwood as boss Bruce reckons he needs an extra keeper.

Bruce wants an understudy to Chris Kirkland who recently signed a new four-year deal.

He is also tracking the Birmingham City duo of Olivier Kapo and Sebastian Larsson.

West Brom's Zoltan Gera is also on Bruce's shopping list but moves for Newcastle's Charles N'zogbia are unlikely.

Wigan are confident Paul Scharner will soon sign an extended two-year contract. Scharner has said he is happy at Wigan but there is outside interest with Fulham particularly keen.

Back in January, Roy Hodgson tabled two bids to try and lure the Austrian to Craven Cottage.
