Whelan committed to Wigan

Dave Whelan
DAVE Whelan insists his commitment to Wigan Athletic has "never been stronger" despite his JJB share sale.

And manager Chris Hutchings will still have funds available to add further players to his squad.

Whelan's disposal of his 29% stake in the JJB Sports brand, raised fears he might quit both Latics and Wigan Warriors.

However, he insisted: "I would like to assure supporters that on-going developments with my other business interests do not affect Wigan Athletic.

"I am more excited about this coming season than I ever have been. My commitment to the club, and that of my wife Pat and our entire family, has never been stronger.

"When I took over Latics 12 years ago, my dream was to get the club into the Premiership.

"Now my dream is to establish Wigan Athletic as a Premiership club for many years to come, and I see this very much as work in progress."

Enthusiastic

Chief Executive Brenda Spencer adds: "Mr Whelan is as enthusiastic about Wigan Athletic now as he ever has been.

"His ambition for this club knows no bounds. I can assure fans there are some really exciting times ahead.

"We have already made two exciting signings and we are working on bringing other players in as soon as possible."

Dutch keeper Dorus De Vries could be one of them. He has been freed by Dunfermline after the SPL side's relegation.

Is mr Whelan gona get rid of his WAFC shares now hes sold his JJB shares...

No committement to wigan in the long run there.

However it looks hes made his millions now he can retire peacefully knowing that wigan has been lost forever...

WAFC will not survice its next football season without proper backing for players and such like... R.I.P WAFC
