Folan's form and eye for goal following his £500,000 move from Chesterfield has impressed Republic of Ireland manager Steve Staunton.
Folan, 24, is understood to be eligible for an Irish call-up because of a grandparent.
Wigan boss Paul Jewell said: "Steve rang me the other day and there seems to be a bit of interest in Caleb who has been doing well in the short time he has been here.
Chipped in
"The lad has a lot to learn, he knows this but he's willing to do that. He's already chipped in with two goals and the four points he has earned us with them could be worth a lot come the end of the season.
"Caleb is keen to do well and sometimes you have to take a chance with a player, but with the price we agreed for him I don't think this one is a risk. £500,000 for a striker at 24 with his attributes is a good deal and if Caleb works out then we have landed ourselves a gem."
THE board will meet next week to discuss season ticket prices for next year and chairman Dave Whelan has promised a fantastic deal to fans who renew their season tickets.
