Preview: Bristol City v Stockport County

SAMMY McIlroy knows his Stockport County side face a tough task in stretching their unbeaten run at Bristol City tomorrow.

Four games without a loss have lifted Stockport out of the bottom four and McIlroy is determined to avoid going back there with a defeat at Ashton Gate.

“I went to see Bristol City when they played at Barnsley on Tuesday night and they looked a very good side,” said McIlroy.

“They will make it a very different game from the one we faced last week against Brentford, who came to defend.

Tough test

“It will also give us a chance to see how we measure up against them and see how much we’ve improved.

“Although we know we have improved we still have to get results.

“We’re out of the bottom four and we’re in the pack, but we have to make sure we stay in that pack.”

McIlroy will continue with the forward line of Aaron Wilbraham and Preston loan striker Simon Lynch.

Striker Jon Daly, who has returned from international duty with the Irish Under-20 team, goes straight into the squad.

“Jon has been out of the picture for a while, but he’s done well in training and he’ll be travelling down with us,” added McIlroy.

Republic of Ireland keeper Nick Colgan will keep his place as James Spencer is not yet ready to start.

Ali Gibb and Rob Clare have both shrugged off injuries and will be fit.
Bristol City boss Danny Wilson is demanding an improvement in his side after the midweek cup defeat at Barnsley.

“I would like to think that the players could lift themselves back up, but that is a job for me and the staff and we will try and do it,” said Wilson.

“I want a better performance in terms of tempo and one-to-one combat and confrontation.”
