Stockport County

Preview: Stockport County v Tranmere Rovers

CARLTON Palmer won't allow any let-up as Stockport County attempt to end the season on a high note.

Standing in the way of County extending their unbeaten run to six games tomorrow are Tranmere Rovers, whose poor goal difference means they need a massive win to stand even a remote chance of making the play-offs.

Palmer, though, is keen to ensure that Rovers don't leave with even the narrowest of successes.

'I want to finish the season as high as possible so we'll be approaching this game as we have done every other one,' he said.

'Tranmere have had a good season, although it doesn't look as though they're going to get in the play-offs, but it'll still be a difficult game.'

No farewell for Palmer

Palmer will not be making a farewell performance in a County shirt despite calls for him to do so.

The player-boss has not played since being sent off at Cheltenham at the start of the year, and although he will sign on as a non-contract player next season he doesn't expect to start a game again unless County are in the direst of circumstances.

'There have been a few people trying to persuade me to play against Tranmere, but this game is not about Carlton Palmer it's about the club.'

Defender John Hardiker is definitely out with a ligament injury sustained in the reserves' 2-1 defeat by Stoke City on Monday.

'John will be out for a couple of weeks, but at least it's not too serious,' added Palmer.
