STOCKPORT were denied another victory and what would have been a
fifth straight clean sheet by a late Jack Lester goal at
Saltergate.
It was the first county had conceded in 439 minutes but the damage
would have been worse but for the reflexes and bravery of keeper
Conrad Logan.
He made a superb 88th-minute save at the feet of Lester after a
rare mistake by skipper Ashley Williams.
County also had their moments and substitute Liam Dickinson was
denied his second of the afternoon by Barry Roche.
Chances were less frequent in the first half, although Anthony
Elding should have done better in the sixth minute when Matty
McNeil set him up but a poor first touch let him down.
But there was no mistaking the quality of Dickinson's brave header
which put County in front in the 64th minute.
That looked good enough to secure the points but Chesterfield
poured forward, and the pressure paid off in the 79th minute.
County failed to deal with a corner and Lester forced the ball in
from close range.
The action swung from end to end in the final minutes, with Lester
striking the top of the crossbar - just after Dickinson had gone
clear, only for Roche to take the ball off his right boot.
