KEITH Briggs is set to spend his New Year on the sidelines after
suffering a Boxing Day knee injury.
The Stockport midfielder will miss the clash with Grimsby at
Edgeley Park, and could be out for several weeks after suffering
suspected knee ligament damage during the 2-0 win over Notts
County.
It means that Jason Taylor, who missed the Boxing Day game with an
ankle problem, may return if he has recovered in time.
"Keith Briggs is a definite non-runner," said Stockport boss Jim
Gannon. "It's unfortunate for the lad, because he's been working
really hard."
Despite that injury blow, County still go into the game in good
spirits, having moved back into the top half of League Two.
"I was delighted with the victory over Notts County, and the clean
sheet," Gannon said. "It keeps up a fantastic home record. There's
only one team who fancies playing here, and that's us. Everybody
will be scared of coming here now, but we've got to keep putting in
the same sort of effort.
"My lads are working hard. They worked hard on Christmas Day, they
put in a great shift on Boxing Day, I gave them Wednesday off, and
we're preparing as professionally as ever for the Grimsby
game."
