KEITH Briggs is set to spend his New Year on the sidelines after suffering a Boxing Day knee injury.
The Stockport midfielder will miss the clash with Grimsby at Edgeley Park, and could be out for several weeks after suffering suspected knee ligament damage during the 2-0 win over Notts County.
It means that Jason Taylor, who missed the Boxing Day game with an ankle problem, may return if he has recovered in time.
"Keith Briggs is a definite non-runner," said Stockport boss Jim Gannon. "It's unfortunate for the lad, because he's been working really hard."
Despite that injury blow, County still go into the game in good spirits, having moved back into the top half of League Two.
"I was delighted with the victory over Notts County, and the clean sheet," Gannon said. "It keeps up a fantastic home record. There's only one team who fancies playing here, and that's us. Everybody will be scared of coming here now, but we've got to keep putting in the same sort of effort.
"My lads are working hard. They worked hard on Christmas Day, they put in a great shift on Boxing Day, I gave them Wednesday off, and we're preparing as professionally as ever for the Grimsby game."
Last season: Stockport 2 Grimsby 1
Key opponent: Martin Paterson - On loan striker has settled well at Grimsby
Prediction: Stockport 2 Grimsby 1 - County's solid home form should see them through

Could it possibly depend on scoring more goals than they let in again? Come on geniuses, what do you think? You've gone quiet again after a win and a clean sheet.
"He who knows it all"
Liam Dickinson has made a difference to the team since he has joined the club. Keep up the good work!
If we had played with Spencer all season we wouldn't be where we are now. Simple fact was the defence had no confidence, Ruddy gave them that and it seems they have gained alot from it. The fact that Spencer hasn't had that much to do in the past two games sums that up. The loan signings have all proved very successful and given the team an extra dimenson. Jimbo could have signed a number of journey men in the close season and didn't. I hope that he will make some more inspired signings in January and be able to push us on to the playoffs. Two months ago I didn't think we had the depth, but after the last two games the players coming in have shown their mettle. Our away record concerns me though, tough games coming up. Totally off the subject though, I'm very impressed with Paul Ince and waht he's done at Macc, if he keeps that up he won't be there too long!!
