EXPRESS sports editor Simon Smedley has decided that éif you canét beat éem, join éemé, for Countyés crunch FA Cup tie at Exeter City this weekend.
Simon, who has been reporting on Countyés fortunes for the paper for the past three years, got so wrapped up in Saturdayés thrilling victory over league leaders Lincoln City that he has now decided that he would like to take a éday offé for the trip to St Jamesé Park and roar on the Hatters along with the tremendous travelling faithful.
Simon said: "I have to admit that I lost it a bit in the press box when Michael Malcolm scored to make it 2-0 for County against Lincoln on Saturday.
"I was jumping around and got a few funny looks from some of the other press guys, especially those from Lincoln.
"But the County fans and the atmosphere is just intoxicating really. I went mad because it had been such a brilliant victory.
"Sadly County have been struggling for a few years, but Jim Gannon has got the players going right now and theyére producing some great performances and victories."
County are homing in on the League Two promotion frame after the win over Lincoln, but this weekend attentions turn to the magic of the FA Cup and Simon has decided that he will be roaring the Hatters on from the visiting supportersé enclosure.
He added: "The County fans have always been a tremendous bunch, they travel in their numbers and create a brilliant atmosphere at Edgeley Park. Theyére renowned for it these days.
"Iéll still have my pen and little note pad in my pocket, but I really want to be a part of the éBlue and White Armyé this weekend.
"I was always a Manchester City fan as a kid, but it didnét take long for me to convert to a County fan once I got involved with writing about the club.
"Of course Iém wary of staying impartial as far as the professional side of my life is concerned, but Stockport County is a great club, with great fans and huge potential.
"I canét wait for Saturday."
