GLENN Murray has bolstered Countyés striking options by joining the club on loan for a month from Carlisle United, with a view to a permanent move at a later date.
Murray, aged 22, has played a big part in Carlisleés last two campaigns, both of which ended with promotion from the Conference and then League Two last term. He has scored six times for the Cumbrians, having made 56 appearances (46 of them as a substitute).
Murray joins his new team-mates for training tomorrow [Thurs], and may well go straight into the starting line-up on Saturday when the new League Two season starts with the home game against Hereford. That is because Tes Bramble is out of the weekend opener after picking up a calf strain in training.
County boss Jim Gannon said: éGlenn will be a good addition for us. He didnét start quite as many games last season as he did when Carlisle were in the Conference, but he will supplement our attacking options.é
Elsewhere on the transfer front, it has proved a frustrating week for Gannon.
Former loan favourite Adam Griffin had looked like rejoining the Hatters from Oldham, but that move is up in the air again. éWeéve reached a bit of a stalemate with Adam,é said Gannon. éIéve been a bit disappointed actually, because Oldham have now indicated that they want a substantial fee and a sell-on clause.
éIém more confident that Jason Taylor will rejoin us from Oldham though. He is another player weéve targeted but that deal is a bit more straight-forward. Iém hopeful he will join us on Thursday.é
Trialist goalkeeper Tim Deasy has been offered a one-year contract and has indicated that he will join County on Thursday too, but it does look increasingly likely that Dean Holden will not be moving to Edgeley Park.
Gannon added: éI fear that that move is going cold now. We have spoken to Keith Alexander and Deanés agent, and we were under the impression that he was desperate to move back north, but weéve heard nothing since.
éAlexander does want to hold on to Dean, so weéll probably sit tight now and maybe wait until Christmas.é
So ités all eyes on Saturdayés mouth-watering home clash with newly-promoted Hereford now. Boss Gannon said: éBarring Tes Bramble, Iéve got a full-strength squad to choose from.
éThe excitement is building of course, and by Thursday and Friday it will be tangible.
éHereford are a big, strong side, and will provide a real challenge for us, but we have looked particularly strong at the back and in midfield.
éWe just need to be a little bit more creative in attack, but weére all looking forward to the weekend.é
