Stockport County

Getting to know you!

SIX days in Ibiza certainly helped County new boys Gareth Owen and Michael Rose settle in with their new team-mates.

Defender Owen, who is on a year-long loan from Oldham Athletic, and full-back Rose, who joined the Hatters on a free from Yeovil Town, only linked up with their new pals a week before jetting off to San Antonio, but everyone appears to have got on well.

Owen said last Thursday in Ibiza: "Coming on this trip has been good. Ités been quite hard with the weather, the heat has been a big shock for the lads really. But ités helped bring everyone together.

"The pitch hasnét been the best, but the trip has served its purpose, thereés been a lot of team building going on. With me being a new player ités got me used to the other lads, all in all ités been a good experience. Iéve really enjoyed it with my new team-mates so far, we have got on great."

Owen went on: "The training has been good with Wardy and the gaffer. I get on with them as well and I think some of their ideas are great. This is going to be a good place for me to play football.

"I didnét have to think for too long before joining Stockport.

"It was common knowledge that I wanted to leave Oldham, and as soon as I met the gaffer and Wardy I was impressed with what I saw. The feelings I got from around the place were also very positive. That was the main reason for me joining, but at the end of the day I just want to play football and I think I can do that at Stockport."

Rose, meanwhile, also enjoyed getting a bit of sun on his back.

He said: "All the lads have enjoyed being out here and being involved in the tournament. Unfortunately we lost to Scunthorpe of course, but we have just used the trip for team building really.

"Coming here has helped me settle in with the lads, being with them 24-7 has been good. Iéve got to know everyone better by the day and made some good new friends."

Despite that San An Cup semi-final defeat by Scunthorpe, Rose added that he was still pleased with his sideés performance a week last Tuesday. He felt County were unlucky.

Rose added: "On another day we could have been three or four up by half-time. We created a few good chances and for 60 minutes we were the better team.

"Whether it was tiredness or the heat though, Scunthorpe did come out on top near the end and got their goal. But we should have already had the game won.

"We gave Scunthorpe a run for their money and hopefully thatés a sign of things to come. Hopefully we will be firing on all cylinders once the league season starts."
