SO after a week of nail-biting, sleepless nights and panic attacks [well, that was how it went for me - Sports Ed], it finally got to 3pm on Saturday and Stockport Countyés fate was set to be decided.
All Countyés fans knew the hugely complicated scenario going into the weekend, there were still seven teams battling to avoid the one remaining relegation berth.
An inferior goal difference meant that Oxford United were the main threat to Countyés continuing Football League status, they were two points adrift in the second relegation spot and they simply HAD to win to be in with a chance of surviving.
But they were up against promotion-seeking Leyton Orient at the Kassam Stadium - surely Martin Lingés side would be busting a gut to win that one!
It was a dramatic day, one that will live long in the memory of thousands of County fans, but we donét want to go through it all again do we?
Timeline
3.07pm
There's a shock goal as David Morley puts Macclesfield in front at Bristol Rovers. That's not great news for County so early on.
3.12pm
Bristol Rovers equalise through Lewis Haldane. It sounds like it could be a cracker on the cards at the Memorial Stadium.
3.14pm
Oh no! Eric Sabin puts Oxford in front against Orient. That is something County fans definitely could do without.
3.17pm
Phew! Craig Easton hits back almost immediately for Orient and thereés some temporary relief around Edgeley Park. Things are looking okay at this stage - donét forget, a draw isnét enough for Oxford.
3.29pm
Marcus Richardson puts Macclesfield back in front down at Bristol. Brian Hortonés men look well set now.
3.41pm
More good news. Dwayne Mattis puts Bury one up at Notts County. The Magpies are now looking in deep trouble. Could it be them who go?
3.45pm
Ités half-time everywhere and as things stand, County are looking pretty good to stay up. Only 45 minutes to go.
4.10pm
Ités been a bad couple of minutes as Liam Hatch and Nicky Bailey put Barnet 2-0 up at already-doomed Rushden. That doesnét come as a great surprise, Barnet also look good to survive now.
4.12pm
Yet another twist. Bristol Rovers level it up again against Macclesfield thanks to another Lewis Haldane goal.
4.25pm
The tension levels increase big time as two goals go in at the Kassam Stadium. Gary Alexander puts Orient in front and ités happy days for County fans, but almost immediately Chris Willmott hits back to make it 2-2.
4.35pm
Ités good news again as Tom Youngs fires Bury two up at Notts County. They could now be in serious trouble if Oxford score again.
4.40pm
However, the drama incredibly moves up yet another notch as Dan Martin and Julien Baudet somehow strike two goals for Notts County, and now as it stands a point for them will be enough.
Meanwhile, Marcus Richardson puts Macc 3-2 up so theyére all but home and dry, Barnet are still in the lead and Torquay, like County, are still goalless.
4.50pm
Countyés game finishes 0-0, so ités all ears on the Oxford game. If they score to go 3-2 up the Hatters are down - the pulses are racing.
YEEESSS! Ités over at Oxford, they've drawn 2-2 so County fans, Jim Gannon and the players start celebrating. But NOOOO! I shout, the guy next to me in the press box is hooked up to the Kassam and theyére still playing! Surely the worse canét happen now.
4.55pm
YEEESSS! Lee Steele scores in the 95th minute for Orient to make it 3-2 at Oxford, and seconds later their game finishes.
Let the celebrations begin!
