Stockport County

Waiting game

COUNTYéS young hot-shot Adam Le Fondre is hoping to sign a new contract with the club before the end of the season.

Le Fondre, aged 19, was talking to Simon Smedley this week during a visit to the Express offices.

The Stockport-born youngster is sponsored by the paper, and popped in to take a look around.

Le Fondre, whose current deal expires this summer, said: "I have been offered a new contract by the club, but talks are ongoing at the moment.

"I want to get a contract signed before the end of the season though, I am happy at County and I want to start making plans for next season."

The Easter weekend proved unproductive for Countyés leading goalscorer [with eight goals] after a strained calf muscle ruled him out of the games against Wrexham and Northampton.

Le Fondre admits that he is énot a good watcheré from the stands, but taking time out has sharpened his focus on the battle on the bottom of League Two.

He said: "After Mondayés result at Northampton we canét afford to lose against Shrewsbury now.

"In fact that goes for the games at Torquay and Barnet too. We need to pick something up from all of those games.

"We donét want it to go down to the last day, thatés for sure."

Le Fondre added: "Of course Iém still confident weéll stay up, weéve got a much stronger squad now, but just as results elsewhere pretty much went for us on Saturday, they went the opposite way on Monday.

"They all seem to be picking up points at present, while Northampton was always going to be a hard place for us to go to on Monday.

"They are the form team in the division, but saying that we were unfortunate, especially in the first half."

Le Fondre continues to have treatment on his strained calf, and is hoping to be back in training either later this week or early next.

He should be available for the trip to relegation rivals Barnet a week on Saturday.
