COUNTY boss Chris Turner and his opposite number Keith Curle both appeared to agree that Saturday’s goalless draw at Edgeley Park was at least an entertaining one.
Both Stockport and Chester were denied by the woodwork in the second half in a game which livened up significantly following a somewhat pedestrian first 45 minutes.
The home side scarcely tested Chester goalkeeper Chris MacKenzie throughout the first half, but both he and Carl Ikeme were kept busy later in the game as both sides went for victory.
Turner said after the game: “Both teams wanted to attack today, they both wanted to score, it was an end-to-end game.
“I was pleased because Chester are challenging at the top end of the table, if we had played like that, and in particular defended like that against Rushden last week we would have won.
“Analysing things after 10 games I’d say we’re nearly there, we’re not a million miles away.
“It is going to be a topsy-turvy season for us, but certainly if we can get everyone fit I know we can beat anyone in this division on our day.
“Going forward we’re a good side and we really had to dig in at times today.
“We haven’t had the wins we’ve deserved this season.
“Both teams gave everything today though, I suppose it was just a bit unfortunate for the fans that the game finished nil-nil.
“I was just disappointed we didn’t go on and nick it at the end.”
Chester boss Curle added: “That was a good advert for League Two football. It was a very entertaining game.
“I was pleased that we defended well, we restricted Stockport to a couple of spectacular long-range efforts.
“We’re still buzzing though, it was good to come away from home and dominate the game like we did.”
Chester remain in fourth place in the table after Saturday’s stalemate, while County are still in need of a victory or two down in 19th place.
