STOCKPORT County’s Football in the Community department is celebrating this week after scooping an unprecedented sponsorship deal worth £10,000.
Specsavers Opticians, in Stockport, has agreed to provide £5,000 for the Stockport County programme, which will allow them to set up after school and curriculum coaching, disability clubs and football tournaments, as well as events throughout next season.
Following Specsavers’ sponsorship, Football in the Community was able to secure a further £5,000 from Sportsmatch, the government initiative that matches funds and business sponsorships to support grassroots sports projects.
Carl Chadwick, store director of Specsavers Stockport, said: “We are delighted to support such a worthwhile scheme.
“Football is a part of all our lives and is also a great way to keep kids active and healthy.
“We wish Football in the Community all the best and look forward to hearing about the successes of the programme.”
Mike Smith, Football in the Community officer, added: “This is the first time since we were established in 1992 that we have been able to secure such a significant level of sponsorship.
“The money will go a long way to helping us set up a host of initiatives involving over 150 primary and secondary schools.
“It’s great to have such a commitment from Specsavers – a local business supporting a local cause.”
