STOCKPORT County's owners, Cheshire Sport, are desperately trying to set up a meeting with former chairman Brendan Elwood to allow Friday's handover to the Supporters' Trust to go ahead.

Elwood's agreement is mandatory for the ownership of County being switched to the Trust, but, as yet, no-one has been able to get in touch with the Sheffield businessman.

Trust chairman Norman Beverley said: "Everybody wants this deal to proceed - Stockport Council, Supporters Direct, Cheshire Sport, the Trust, the main sponsors and, most importantly, the fans.

"We would urge Mr Elwood to come forward and give us the assurances we need to go ahead with the takeover.

"But at the moment, the whole deal is in serious danger of collapsing." Tweet
