Turnbull joined Northampton in the summer following County’s relegation to the Blue Square Bet Premier.
But after struggling to hold down a first-team place at Sixfields, the 23-year-old has moved back to County until February 25.
And manager Jim Gannon admitted he was also looking forward to getting back to Edgeley Park after a run of three away games.
“We can’t wait to get back to Edgeley Park,” said Gannon, whose side sit two points and two places above the relegation zone.
“It’s nice for the fans who come to home games because they haven’t had football for a while. Our form has been good so hopefully we can look forward to a really positive performance at Edgeley Park.
“We need more fitness work, we need more technical work, we need more tactical work and more work on set plays.
“We need better players. I said that weeks ago but we also need to step up and become strong professional players because there are too many weak ones at this club.”
Altrincham and Droylsden are both in action in the Blue Square North tonight. Altrincham travel to Blyth Spartans while Eastwood Town visit Droylsden. Tweet

Great that your manager knows what is needed and equally important for the fans to know from the club exactly where we're heading and how.
Come on the County, another battling comeback from 2-0 down for a point tonight and we are going to get more and more difficult to beat, count on it. Not happy of course to be spotting teams a couple of goals start but can't fault the response in the last couple of games.
We're getting better, no doubt :-)
Delighted to see Bully back at the club. Now how about another striker Mr Gannon, Matt Paterson is I believe avaialable! Along with Matty Mainwaring, these three could really turn our season round and bring us that mid table medicority we desperately want to acheive!
