Stockport County

Rookie keeper Ian Ormson is a net gain for Gannon

Rookie keeper Ian Ormson can expect a late Christmas gift this week – County boss Jim Gannon has promised the 17-year-old a video of his league debut at promotion-chasing Luton Town.

Gannon made the bold decision to drop veteran stopper Matt Glennon for the clash at Kenilworth Road and, although County lost 1-0, he wasn’t disappointed.

Gannon said: “I thought Ian was fantastic, he’s got everything I want in a keeper, he’s got a fantastic kick, he’s still a got a bit to learn and we’ve got to make sure we get a good goalkeeping coach in to work with him but the kid’s going to go a long way.”

The teenager made an incredible save right on the stroke of half-time to deny Jake Howells, and it took a penalty from Aaron O’Connor 18 minutes from time to deny improving County a share of the spoils.

But Gannon was full of praise for his young stopper and added: “Even for the penalty, he got a good hand to it. He was really sharp off his line, his sweeping behind the defence was good, I was really pleased for him and I’m sure he’ll be pleased with his performance.

“We’ll get a video for him because it’ll be something for him to look back on, making his league debut for the club.”

Good news, well done young man. I am trying still to have some optimism in light of the current issues but it isnt easy, we are improving thats a fact but we really need some wins and investment. This doesnt seem to be on the cards?I appreciate there will not be a change any time soon, but I would ask will there ever be? are we going to hang in the Blue square premiership from here on in? do we have a five year plan to get out? are we going to merge with another club? is my money going down the drain?.
Jim has built good sides before but if he aint got the money are we just treading water from here on in? Communication please board whats the vision to stop the derision?
Jims good name will only last so long, we may have faith now but if we are still at this stage in September I fear the end. How quickly we have fallen and lesson to all.

Hi Phil, If you read this thanks for the response, most of the time I am an optimist but hate what has happened to the club in such a short space of time and agree this league will not be easy to get out of. If anyone can Jim can.

Slowly slowly will be the only option I just feel that the board or fans who are part of the board say something. They were looking for people to help out and I volunteered twice and got no response? its the silence that the worry. The passion and commitment of the fans is truly incredible---I just want to know whats next. Cheers
