But County had to wait until six minutes from time for Sam Sheridan to make it a happy start to the New Year by converting a penalty winner.
Sheridan put the Hatters one-up after 10 minutes with a blistering 25-yard volley and Stockport appeared to be cruising to their first win since October when Joe Connor added a second with a simple tap-in.
But Barrow’s Richie Baker struck twice in quick succession after the break to put the visitors back on terms and County looked to be heading for their second successive home draw until Aaron Cole was brought down in the box and Sheridan dispatched the resulting spot-kick.
Meanwhile, Hyde stretched their lead at the top of Blue Square Bet North to 11 points by beating their second-placed Tameside neighbours Stalybridge Celtic
3-1 at Bower Fold.
Droylsden avenged their 5-1 Boxing Day drubbing at Altrincham with Ciaran Kilheeney (2) and Dale Johnson on target in their 3-1 win over the Robins.
Ramsbottom missed the chance to go top of the North West Counties League Premier Division after losing 1-0 at Squires Gate. Tweet

After going two nil up we did everything but hand Barrow the three points! Absolutely delighted for Gannon to get his first win. Will not be surprised to see many of these players leaving the club now and some new faces coming in. Up the County.
It just show`s you what a funny old game it is.
Utd and City both lose, and Stockport manage to win
a game. They even manage to score more goals than
Utd and City put together.
Let`s not get too carried away though,Stockport have a tough away
match at Gateshead to come, whilst I`m sure Utd and City
will soon get back to winning way`s.
It had to come and the part that pleased me was that after Barrow erasing the 2-0 lead, County gutted it out and won the game. When was the last time that happened, anybody remember? That is the Gannon effect, a bit of backbone added instead of just accepting "Oh well, here we go again, not our day again." There's no denying that there is a long way to go yet but progress is progress and we knew it wouldn't happen overnight.
Now the big question, what can we follow up with? Luton is a toughie no doubt, but not too farfetched to get something at Gateshead and Braintree, the way each of those 3 teams have been playing. I would be disappointed if we got 0 points out of those games but not half as disappointed as Jimbo, which gives me some cause for ,optimism.
Just have to wait and see what the team and especially Jimbo, have up their sleeves,
Come on County :-)
