Stockport County

Wrexham 4 Stockport County 0

Stockport County slumped to their heaviest defeat of the season, prompting the chairman to call a meeting with manager Didi Hamann on Monday morning.

Wrexham went ahead in the second minute when Jamie Tolley’s free kick was smashed home from inside the six-yard box by the unmarked Nat Knight-Percival.

Mark Creighton had two headers cleared off the line but the Red Dragons doubled their lead thanks to another poorly defended set piece as veteran player-boss Andy Morrell was given the freedom of the Racecourse to bundle home Neil Ashton’s corner.

Hamann made a double change and threw on Danny Whitehead and Jon Routledge at the break, while some County fans decided to head off to the pub next door.  Within a minute of the restart they were proved right, as the Hatters conceded from yet another set piece as Knight-Percival hooked home his second of the day.

Substitute Jake Speight completed the rout on 75 minutes after former Wrexham man Chris Blackburn was caught in possession.

Wrexham confirmed their place at the top of the table, whilst the Hatters now face a trip to bottom of the league Bath on Tuesday off the back of their heaviest defeat in North Wales in 75 years - and in truth Wrexham could have scored seven or eight.

Hamann now faces crunch talks with County Chairman Lord Snape, who said: "That performance had nothing to commend it at all and we were second best, I can only apologise to the fans who spent their hard-earned money to come all this way, it is completely unacceptable.

"The manager chooses the team and the tactics, and that is the poorest display I have seen from Stockport County and I will be speaking to the manager about it all on Monday.  The type of football we are playing is inviting other teams to take us apart."

Hamann said:  "If you give any team a two goal start it makes it hard, but I felt we were lucky to go in two down at half-time - it could've been more. We lacked aggression and we lacked passion today, the way we folded and took the defeat is not acceptable."

What do you think? Have your say.

The club have no ambition, why would the players feel any differently Mr Snape? Ambition was shown the door last month in preference for using the Pilkington windfall to pay the owners' losses from last season. Since Tony Evans left the club has gone right back to last season's blueprint of buy nowt, spend nowt and cut wherever you can. That worked really well last season didn't it?
Completely different set of players, (another) different manager and yet it seems that here we are settling in for another long season of the same results, could it be that the problem is the shambolic running of the club, which the playing side of the club can not overcome?
I propose to you that the problem at SCFC is that clowns are not cut out to be ringmasters, and the comparison to a circus is deliberate. THAT is what you should be apologising to the fans for Snape, not the results of the club's mismanagement but the root causes.
The fans are not as thick as you and others at the club obviously believe.

Man City score 4 and go top of the Prem, County concede 4 and go near bottom of Prem, (Blue Square) . Just 10 yrs ago, a late equaliser by Goater forced a 1-1 draw at Maine Rd, with the mighty Stockport County, the pride of Cheshire. It's almost incredible the way we have fallen, a slow death that nobody seems to be able to stop. But stop it must, please, sorry Mr Hamann, you'ved tried and failed, it's ok playing pretty football in midfield, where there is no pressure, but up front and just lately, at the back, not a clue. Do the gentlemanly thing and please resign. We need to win the next 3 games, but it seems highly unlikely, seeing we've not won 2 in a row for ages, so (if you're still the boss) lose at Bath on Tuesday and you will be in hot water.

One of the most inept performances I have ever witnessed. I am sorry Mr Snape, but jetisonning Mr Ray Mathias was the first of many of the mistakes you have made. For me Mathias knows this level of football, Didi Hamman does not - you cannot try to play premiership football in the conference. Didi out Mathias back please. And when Didi goes please take Chadwick, Elliott, Nolan and the majority of 'his' signings with him. I'd rather see the youth team lads have a go. Gutted.

A defeat at Bath on Tuesday night will leave us staring down the plug hole.

Stockport County's future lies in the balance with the odds stacked against this club's survival. Whilst I take on board the comments of Mullet Vision the present owners cannot be excusively held responsible for the present plight of Stockport County.
The club's biggest problem, by far, is the fact that they do not own their own stadium and have lost a considerable amount of revenue due to this. Lets assume the gate sits at an average of say 3,000. 500 of these are season ticket holders and having already paid some four months ago this actually reduces the average to 2,500. Allowing for concessions lets assume the gate receipt average out at £10 per paying customer. This would bring a match income of £25,000 plus programme and other revenue sources at say £10,000. This equates to an income of £17,500 per week. Not A lot!
When the club gave away it's home it literally gave away it's security.
Hoping that the council would be ready to step in and help fund a new stadium is living in cuckoo land. With the state of the ecomony at the moment they would run the risk of being pilloried should they venture into such a scheme.
There is a deed of covenant which 'ensures' the future of association football on the Hardcastle road site. But does it?
If Cheshire Sports decided to sell I would imagine surely a 'clever' lawyer could claim that in the first instance the ground was sold by Stockport County Footbal Club.
The second claim would be that the stadium was offered back to County but the club were unable or unwilling to meet the asking price.
I have a feeling the second claim would swing it their way.
There is also a rule in place that any club playing in the Blue Square bet national and regional must either own their own stadium or possess a minimum ten year lease. The latest club to fall foul of this are Mansfield Town who must buy back their stadium or have a ten year lease in place by the turn of the year or face expulsion to the Unibond Premier.
The club is unviable as a 'going' business and offers nothing to any potential purchaser.
The club is dying. Previous owners have committed financial suicide in the name of Stockport County and to blame the present owners is quite frankly 'scapegoat' time.

so the meeting with manager and chairman has now taken place, probaly the begining of the end for the manager and its only a matter of time. What is dissapointing is that at the begining of the season we were going to play football on the ground and build from the back and the middle and we would do well in the league. Now its termed as we dont need to be a good footballing side, we cant be attractive and we cant play attractive football. Wow what did we build a side to play then? one way and it doesnt work try another? confusing isnt it, surely you create the squad and set it out how you want to play and keep building on that or die on your sword when we are poor and no signs of improvement. Change the manager, change the chairman, the club and give us all a refund, that would be real progress
