Stockport County

Stockport County 1 York City 2

The only thing remarkable about Edgeley Park on Saturday was the scorching heat as Stockport County lost to York City.

Jason Walker and Matthew Blair scored to give the visitors the three points. Small consolation was offered to County fans when Michael Paton headed home a Danny Whitehead cross four minutes into injury time.

But some Hatters supporters left Edgeley Park five-minutes from time, apparently fed up with their side’s miserable start to the season, resulting in just 14 points from 13 games.

A largely forgettable first half was punctuated by a couple of wasted chances at both ends. York found the net on 23 minutes, but Jason Walker’s effort was rightly disallowed by referee Darren Bond for impeding the Hatters’ keeper Matt Glennon.

Paton and captain Nick Chadwick linked up well for County on occasion with a pinpoint cross from the former finding Chadwick, who pushed his header just over the crossbar after 34 minutes.

Half-time brought some much-needed respite from the sun and seemed to revive both sides.

Nabil Brahim-Bounab, who Didi Hamann brought back into his starting line-up to replace the rested Danny O’Donnell, made a superb block when Walker was through on goal for the visitors.

The Frenchman’s clearance prompted a County break at the other end, with Antonio German’s shot requiring a decent save from City keeper Michael Ingham.

City’s superb striker Walker troubled the County defence for the entire game. He put a perfectly timed ball through to Blair whose header put the visitors ahead on 51 minutes.

They doubled their lead on 86-minutes. A cross from Ashley Chambers fell to Walker who slid the ball past Glennon from the edge of the 6 yard box.

Man of the match Paton headed home a Whitehead cross shortly after to cushion the blow of another fruitless encounter for the Hatters.

STOCKPORT: Glennon 7, Holden 6, German 6, Nolan 6, Miles 6 (Whitehead 60), Chadwick 7 (Elliot 66 6), Brahim-Bounab 7, Piergianni 6, Paton 7, Edwards 6, Blackburn 6 (Sheridan 66 6)

What is your verdict on the action? Have your say.

Well at least it didnt finish 1-1 and my 'county to be relegated bet' keeps looking brighter each week!

What's going on with County? With dropping down a division they should be winning the majority of their games. All they seem to be doing is drawing or losing! Come on lads, pull your socks up and give the fans a bit back for the money they pay each week to watch you!

In my post for the Fleetwood game, I said it's too early to have a go at Hamann, but on Pure radio, he blames the conditions, presumably the heat, for this latest embarrassment. I think i'm correct in saying, that York were also playing in the same heat, and it didn't seem to affect them ! I know we have a few players out with injury, what team doesn't, but he seems oblivious to where the problem is, we're not scoring enough, plain and simple. To rely on 1 goal a game and hope the opposition doesn't score is ridiculous, OK, it worked in the mid 60s with Matt Woods and Eddie Stuart in charge of the defence, when we seemed to win every game 1-0, score then shut the shop, but it's not working now. I suppose "the village idiot" will be on gloating and having a go at me, about my match report, like he did for the last game, but if you read the post properly, it's not a match report, it's just my take on the situation, being a loyal County fan, disgusted how we have got into this mess, and just hoping it can be sorted out sooner rather than later. It's reported that Jeffers is training with us, get him on board Didi, we need a goalscorer, or didn't you know !

We've won exactly 24 games in 128 since 2009 so to pretend we're not going to be in a relegation battle this season is pure folly.

With the rent set to go up on Edgeley Park next season we can't sustain a drop into the BS North. Time to seriously consider starting again, as painful as that might be.

The parasites have well and truly sucked this club dry over the last ten years. Hope they're happy.

I placed a pre season bet on Stockport County to go straight back
up again at 25/1.I was so confident they would.but when I look at their
league position now it seems a long way off.
I have watched them play since about 1973,and I have witnessed
some great games.I remember they almost beat UTD in the cup
about 77 or 78 and have seen them beat MAN CITY and other
teams who are now in the premiership.
It is disgusting ,that they have sunk this low,who is to blame you tell me?
I wouldn`t be too hard on 19 titles,as his comments often hit the nail
on the head, and serve as a wake up call!
Let`s be realistic, were not even in the top half of this league.
I`ve decided I`m going to see where they are in Febuary next year
before I comment any further. But if they go any lower than this division
I`m calling it a day!

The team does give 19 titles plenty of ammunition.

Or always bet on Barcelona beating United. Oh forgot, terrible odds.

Funnily enough - I have always been a County and a United supporter -since about 1966.

I bear neither team any malice and love them both.

I fear County will sink without trace without some money coming in

Shame on anyone who has brought this about -and why has Graham Shaw gone?
