Plymouth Argyle, who sacked manager Peter Reid on Sunday, were understood to have made an approach for Hamann on Monday.
But yesterday County denied they had received any contact from League Two’s bottom club, dismissing the speculation as ‘nonsense’.
Hamann was brought in by Liverpool-based businessman Tony Evans during the summer.
Evans has since abandoned his bid to buy a majority stake in the club after negotiations broke down, throwing Hamann’s future into doubt.
It is understood Hamann’s one-year deal includes a clause which allows County to cut his wages if the takeover failed to go ahead.
It’s also understood that should club bosses exercise the clause, Hamann is free to leave Edgeley Park for nothing.
On Monday, Evans tweeted: “Classic Plymouth back off Didi.” He later posted: “Hamann loves County so it won’t happen I don’t reckon.”
Meanwhile, County were looking for their first back-to-back wins in 125 games at Newport, but they never looked like ending that miserable sequence, and were glad to salvage a point in south Wales.
The Hatters fell behind on 31 minutes when former Manchester United youngster Danny Rose slotted home from close range to give Newport a well-deserved lead.
The home side had lost five games in a row before this contest, but they looked full of confidence and almost doubled their lead through Sam Foley whose 18-yard effort flashed narrowly wide.
But the Hatters rallied in the second half and levelled the game nine minutes from time when Tom Elliott headed home a brilliant cross from Sean McConville to claim his fourth goal of the season.
It’s the seventh time the County fans have seen their side draw one-all during the current campaign - and they’ve only played ten games.
COUNTY (4-4-2): Glennon 6; Halls 5 (McCann 35, 6) O’Donnell (capt) 6 Piergianni 6 Rowe 6; McConville 7 Blackburn 6 Nolan 6 Paton 6; Elliott 6 German 5 (Holden 66, 6).

Gonna have to start putting money on this scoreline!!
I bumped into an Italian friend of mine in the precinct today,
he actually thought Stockport County One was the name
of the team.
Let`s be realistic,Mr Evans has abandoned his bid,
the club still have debts? There not winning that many
matches, there not scoring that many goals.
On a positive note, they are also not conceding that
many goals. It is still early on in the season,so there
is plenty of time for things to change.
Where is this club going?
I remember watching them win at Bolton one year,1-0 followed
by a 2-1 win at Man city. They were doing so well then they sold
a few players and plummeted.I personally believe the key to
any future success is getting a good squad together and keeping
it intact.
