Stockport County’s £40k 'No Win, No Fee' bet on victory

Stockport County are ready to take a £40,000 gamble in a bid to boost attendances at Edgeley Park.

Under an initiative dreamt up by director Tony Evans, County fans, including season ticket holders, have been promised a full refund if Dietmar Hamann’s side lose their home game against Ebbsfleet on August 20.

And with around 4,000 expected to watch County’s first Saturday game at Edgeley Park in the Blue Square Premier, all paying £10 for a ticket, a poor performance wouldn’t just cost the Hatters three points – but a whopping £40,000.

Hatters boss Hamann said he hopes the offer – organised alongside shirt sponsor and personal injury firm GT Law – will help fill Edgeley Park but warned his players that he won’t be happy if the club have to hand back fans’ cash.

Hamann said: “I hope people who don’t normally come to the game will take GT Law up on its offer and we get a packed Edgeley Park.

“Of course, the team will be doing everything to make sure there are no refunds.”

Evans, who is still in talks over a deal to take over at Edgeley Park, said he hopes the offer will help bring back fans who have been turned off after two successive relegations.

“Many fans feel they have been let down in the past and this is an opportunity for all fans to come and get behind the team,” said Evans.

“We have the utmost respect for Ebbsfleet United and what their fans have done for the club. They just happen to be the first team this season we are playing on a Saturday.”

Gordon Tucker, a director at GT Law who have signed a two-year sponsorship deal with County, added: “We already offer our clients a no win, no fee service. This seems a good opportunity to extend that offer to all fans who come to the Ebbsfleet game.”

I can hear both set of fans cheering for Ebbsfleet already.

What a fantastic offer, well done Mr Evans, hopefully his gamble will pay off but I cant see Ebbsfleet being too happy, but I hope they see it as a way of boosting the gate and not as an easy 3 pts. I'm flying over from Spain to see the 1st two home games so the £10 back would ease my ticket cost, but i'd donate it anyway, C'mon County, Dave Moore in La Marina
